Road trip with your dog: pack smart

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Summer is all about road-tripping – fun to cruise across the Mountain State or take a weekend away.

Now, it’s all about packing smart if your dog accompanies you on these trips.

It can mean the difference between smooth sailing or a chaotic mess.

“The challenge is not leaving your pet in the car where it’s too hot or anything like restaurants and things. We try to find places to stop that have access to walk your dog,” said Atlanta, Georgia resident Angela Smith at the Beckley Travel Plaza.

According to Smith, her five-year-old dog only wants to ride in the front seats, and that has been somewhat of a challenge, but he’s doing great.

“Just be mindful of your pets,” Smith said. “Know this is their trip as well and it’s out of their comfort zone.  Try to make them as comfortable as possible and be watchful over them at all times.”
