Riding the weather roller coaster this week!

It is a partly cloudy and cool evening around the region. Skies that started mostly cloudy have begun to clear. That will allow temperatures to fall into the mid to upper 30s around the area, with some of the usually colder spots dropping to the freezing mark.
Tomorrow will be a mostly sunny day around the region. It will feel quite pleasant outside, with highs in the mid-50s and a light wind out of the west. Despite the nice feel, it’s actually still below the normal for this time of the year, but given what we’ve seen lately, most of us will enjoy the day.
If you think it will be nice tomorrow, wait until you see what’s in store for the middle of the week! Ahead of a weak front, highs will be in the mid-60s in most areas under sunny skies. The front doesn’t have any moisture to work with, so it won’t be producing any rain as it pushes through. What it will do is drive the temperatures back down into the mid-50s on Thursday.
By Friday, another system will push into the region from the northwest, and this one will have moisture to work with. Showers are likely to fall around the region; the only question is regarding the timing.
So far, we’ve gotten all of this season’s football games in without any rain, with the week 2 games ending before the line of strong to severe storms pushed through. Behind this next front is the coldest air of the season so far. With precipitation continuing through the end of the weekend and into Monday, courtesy of a secondary system that pushes into the region, the rain will change over to snow throughout the entire area.
It’s too early to pinpoint how heavy the snow will be, but at least some of the snow that falls will melt since the ground and roads will be warm enough to allow for the melting.
