Ridge Runners win home opener in dramatic fashion

BLUEFIELD, WV (WOAY) – Once Senator Shelley Moore Capito threw the ceremonial first pitch on Saturday, a new era of baseball in Bluefield began.

No longer the Blue Jays, Bluefield played its first-ever home game as the Ridge Runners. Fans were treated to a thrilling contest, as the team hosted the Greenville Flyboys.

After a go-ahead run in the 8th inning, Bluefield won 10-9 to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The game remained scoreless until the 4th inning when the visitors exploded with 5 runs. The Ridge Runners were undeterred, responding with 4 runs in the 5th to trail 7-5.

In the 8th inning, Bluefield finally seized their first lead of the game, breaking a 9-9 tie.

Next up, the Ridge Runners host Greenville again on Sunday.
