RetroReset Rasslin’ presents RetroMania to benefit Alzheimer’s Association

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – RetroReset Video Games & Collectibles is gearing up for its August 3 RetroMania for a great cause.

The all-day pop culture/wrestling show will raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
According to the National Institute on Aging, Alzheimer’s is the seventh leading cause of death and most common cause of dementia.

“My wife’s family had several family members that had Alzheimer’s. And we were really involved with the Beckley/Oak Hill Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” said co-owner Clay Williamson.

“We’re really hoping to try to help, you know, get the walk back to where it was several years ago around here.”

There will be meet-and-greets, vendors, food trucks, live music and much more.

“And then a huge wrestling show, and then a fireworks display at the end of the night, and we got celebrities from Star Wars and Spider-Man and Toxic Avengers and the original Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th,” Williamson said. “So we got something for everybody. “Then we’re going to take that, and we’re using it as a way to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, to present to them at the New River Walk to End Alzheimer’s in September.”

According to the co-owner, being a part of this event means you’re doing something good for those who need it most.

“We’ve done several pop culture events and horror conventions and done really well,” said Williamson. “But this one’s kind of the biggest one we’ve ever tried.”

It’s critical to have community support because Alzheimer’s disease impacts so many lives in one way or another.

“Just about anybody you talk to has somebody or knows somebody who’s been affected by it,” Williamson said. “So stuff like this is important to get awareness out about it, but also to help research, to hopefully get a cure before too long.”
