Retro Reset hosts the first ever Beckley Model Train Show

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- All aboard!

This weekend beckley has its first-ever model train show. It’s at the Retro Reset in the Crossroads Mall. People can view various train collectibles, purchase model trains, and view the train layout with running trains. Why did they do this?

“There are some guys who are from Charleston, from Huntington, and some guys from Roanoke asked me and ‘Joe, we never had one up in Beckley, and we used to have one in Bluefield,’ explained Joseph Barnett, the coordinator of the train show. “Found some fellows here that have a place here in the Crossroads Mall. I talked to them and this is our first going at it, including for them too.”

Vendors come from all over the state, including Pennslyvania, Ohio, and Virginia. The show costs $5 for a ticket and will be valid all weekend. The train layout is provided by the Kanawha Valley Railroad Association. Local train enthusiast explains why he is excited for this show.

“I am ecstatic! I have been waiting for a model trade show for years to come to town. The closest one was in Hinton. That’s like an hour away,” said Aiden Brown, a train enthusiast. “And not only came like, once every year. And I’m just so happy that this is here so early in the year.”

He also talks about why he loves trains so much.

“I’ve been a big model train fan for about ten years or so,” said Brown. “I used to live in Thurmond. Right next to our house was the RJ. Corman, the railroad company. They had a little line that went through our neighborhood, and I used to go to the railroad tracks and watch trains go by almost every day.”

So whether or not you’re a train enthusiast, just need something to do, or want to get your kids out of the house for a weekend. Come over to Retro Reset where Beckley’s First-Ever model train show is going on.

If you missed today, don’t worry you can still go throughout the weekend.
