On the last week of November, one of the worst Winter Storms struck parts of the Appalachians. Over 50 inches of snow fell in Pickens, WV; while 30 inches fell in Pittsburgh, PA. The Gulf Coast of Florida had a temperature in the low 20’s, while temperatures across Central Alabama hit the single digits.
The storm formed along a cold front that was across the Appalachians, and moved north from North Carolina into Virginia. It ended up curling west and stalling across Ohio, producing the very heavy snowfall rates that were observed. This storm ended up creating the center we call NCEP, which helped to create the weather models that we use today!
