Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – Let’s take a moment to remember Judge John W. Hatcher Jr., who died at the age of 81 on July 11, 2025.
John was the oldest child of his family, growing up in Edmond, WV. He graduated from Nuttall High School, West Virginia University, and WVU University College of Law.
After his matriculation from law school, John was commissioned as a captain in the U.S. Army and attended Judge Advocate General School. Afterwards, he served in Vietnam as a JAG Officer. He was honorably discharged from the army.
Following this, he moved to Fayette County and entered private law practice and established a solo practice. Later, he entered the world of politics and served Fayette County in the House of Delegates.
He filled many roles, including the Circuit Court in Fayette County in 1990, being sworn into office January 4, 1991. He served for 28 years, retiring in 2018.
He and his wife Alice moved to Florida and enjoyed every day.
