Remember to stay safe when biking around town

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY)- It’s that time of year for people to get their bikes out and ride around the area and trails. However, that brings the potential for bicyclists to get hit by vehicles.

In 2023, almost 1,200 bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes. To help prevent this from happening, here are some tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The biggest tip for drivers to avoid bicyclists is to remember to share the road. Yield to them as you would a normal vehicle, obey speed limits, don’t pass too closely, and watch where you’re going.

For bicyclists, wear a helmet, be focused and alert, and obey the rules of the road.
