It was a beautiful day today across Southern West Virginia. Temperatures were in the 80’s region wide and the heat will definitely continue to increase as we head through early week. There is a small chance that some showers or a thunderstorm go up during the evening/overnight hours of Monday, but the main story Monday will be the heat as potential records could be broken!
Our most likely chance of rain comes Wednesday pretty much lasts through Sunday. This is a quick snapshot of what Saturday evening looks like as we watch for a system making it’s way through our area that would bring us widespread rain throughout southern West Virginia.
Based off the European model, rainfall could exceed an inch in most locations over the next 7 days with some areas even exceeding nearly 2 inches. The GFS model rain forecast has most people exceeding 2 inches with even some exceeding 3 inches. That being said, this rain is much needed and could help us out some with the drought, although much more is needed to fully eradicate it.
Looking at the full 7 day forecast, a lot of rain is forecast. Heat is the name of the game Monday and Tuesday. Rain and clouds will cool us down Thursday through Sunday. Potential records could be broken on Monday as the high nears the upper 80’s. Thunderstorm potential is most likely Wednesday and Thursday with more normal rain falling Friday-Sunday.
