West Virginia (WOAY) Read Aloud West Virginia is launching a special fundraising campaign in memory of the late Dolly Parton and her commitment to childhood literacy.
Throughout September, Read Aloud West Virginia says it will match donations dollar for dollar with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library partners in West Virginia when donors note “in memory of Dolly” with their contribution.
The Imagination Library provides children with a free book each month from birth through age five.
Read Aloud West Virginia focuses on school-aged children, providing books, classroom reading volunteers and resources to encourage literacy across the Mountain State.
The organization says it currently has formal programs in 28 counties, but responds to teacher requests from all 55 counties.
Read Aloud West Virginia is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and says additional funding is especially important as schools return to session.
