Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn you about a phone scam.
According to a post on the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Scammers are making calls to people in the community or leaving messages claiming to represent the Sheriff’s Office.
The person making the calls or leaving messages claims that the person owes fines, and threatens arrest if money is not paid by gift card. In some cases, the scammers use apps or social media to make their schemes look legitimate.
Officials with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office say they do not collect fines or payments from individuals.
