BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office has promoted one of its own for his hard work and dedication.
A seven-year department veteran, Derek Eikost received the promotion from deputy to corporal and is stationed at the Raleigh County Courthouse.
As Judge Andrew Dimlich’s bailiff, Eikost ensures the safety and security of the judge’s courtroom and the courthouse.
The corporal says he came to law enforcement later in life, but it was always his passion.
He loves doing the job every day and is thankful to be recognized.
“I applied for the sheriff’s department and was hired at 43, went to the academy at 44. So I was pretty much the oldest person in my class at the academy,” Eikost said, adding that age is just a number.
“I enjoy the people I work with. And honestly, I can’t say enough about the current sheriff and the chiefs,” said Eikost. “I think it’s important for the general people to be able to come to the courthouse and face either people that have done them wrong or victims of crimes and able to tell their side story and have peace of mind that they’re gonna be safe while they do so.”
The corporal has made an impact.
“He’s a great officer,” Sheriff Frank Priddy said. “Does a fantastic job, and I wish I had six more just like him.”
