Raleigh County seniors share voting message: Every vote counts

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Seniors at the Raleigh County Commission on Aging are urging their fellow residents to get to the polls, drawing on decades of voting experience to make their case.

Dolly Weidensall said the reason is simple. “Everybody needs to do the voting,” she said. “If you don’t vote, you don’t need to complain.”

Patricia Hicks echoed that message. “Go vote. You really can’t say nothing. Every vote counts. Go out and vote. Because if you don’t vote, your vote might be the one that’s going to help us.”

Mary Mullens put it her own way. “Just go on, give your opinion and just be a winner, you know, because if you do it, then you can’t say you didn’t.”

But even the most dedicated voters admit the end of election season can’t come soon enough. Weidensall said the nonstop ads have grown old. “If it’s not political advertisement, it’s lawyer advertisements that’s on television, and it gets sort of boring.”

Mullens agreed. “I’m ready for it to end, because I’m tired of seeing these commercials,” she said. “I just get tired of them taking up my shows. You know, when I’m watching something I want to watch it all.”

Hicks kept it brief. “It’s always the same thing. They keep saying same thing, same thing, same thing. So I’m just ready for it to be over.”
