Raleigh County Man failed to register as a sex offender

Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – Anthony Broadnax, a 61-year-old man, has pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender after moving from Virginia to West Virginia.

The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) requires offenders to register.

According to court documents, from May 2021 to July 26, 2021, Broadnax lived in Beckley after he moved from Virginia. Broadnaz failed to register as a sex offender in West Virginia or to update his registration in Virginia as required by SORNA after his move.

Broadnaz has to report his moves due to his prior convictions for aggravated sexual battery on August 25, 1990 and rape on Feburay 7, 1991. These events both happened in Prince William County, Virginia.

Broadnax is scheduled to be sentenced on August 29, 2025, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, with a minimum of 5 years to a lifetime of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
