Rainy Pattern Continues; Cold Weekend

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The morning commute features patchy fog and scattered showers. Visibility issues are not widespread, but they may affect some of our viewing area. Any lingering fog dies down later this morning, but rain will continue to fall through the day. A cold front did pass through recently, but it did not impact us much in terms of temperatures. Our area is much milder than usual for this time of the year, staying in the mid- to upper 60s.

The front that passed through overnight will remain virtually stationary just to our south. This results in scattered showers and storms continuing through the evening. Nothing severe is expected, but a breezy storm or two would not be a surprise. Heavy rain may cause some isolated water issues, but this should be confined to ponding of water in vulnerable areas. The Weather Prediction Center has placed a “Marginal” risk of excessive rainfall for the majority of the viewing area. Rainfall will slowly fade this evening, eventually drying out early Friday morning. However, the rain does not stay away for long. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the full forecast:

Another cold front is slated to move into the region Friday afternoon, bringing more showers and storms with it. There is not as much moisture associated with the front. This should keep us out of any additional flooding risk. The strongest storms will develop to our east, which is also good news. Once again, a breezy storm or two would not surprise me, but activity will likely stay below severe parameters. Showers and storms will last into the overnight hours, weakening as time passes. This is mainly due to temperatures sharply decreasing after the front passes through.

Bridge Day is on Saturday, and this front will leave a lasting impact for the festivities. Low temperatures will reach the upper 30s, so you will want to bundle up. Rain has also been trending to stick around a bit later over the last day or so. Thankfully, any remaining showers will be light. Showers should not disrupt activities and will clear out relatively quickly in the morning. Skies will eventually become partly sunny in the afternoon, but the sun will not help temperatures much. Afternoon highs will remain in the upper 40s, so your layers will likely stay on all day. Despite the early morning drizzle and chilly conditions, Bridge Day will be a great time.

High pressure will move into the region later this weekend, resulting in an extended streak of dry weather. Sunday morning will be frosty as temperatures dip below-freezing, but conditions get better in the afternoon. Early next week, temperatures will slowly move towards average while skies remain mostly sunny. The high-pressure system leaves Monday, but not major disturbance is expected to bring rain into the region through at least Wednesday of next week. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
