Rain Returns; Gloomy, Damp Weekend Ahead

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Patchy fog will impact the morning commute, but it will be a smooth trip otherwise. Drive carefully and use your low beams if you run into dense fog. Skies remain partly cloudy this morning, but cloud cover gradually increases. Conditions will change from calm and dry to warm and wet later in the day. Do not forget your rain gear as you head out the door, especially if you are going out for an extended period.

Showers and isolated storms are slated to start this afternoon, kicking off the active pattern within our area. Rain will remain scattered today before becoming widespread gradually this weekend. A few showers and any isolated storms may produce heavy rain causing minor flooding issues. Flooding should be confined to ponding water, mostly in low-lying areas. Any thunderstorms will remain weak, which is good news. Rain gear is recommended if you are heading to any of the football games or attending any other outdoor plans. A lightning delay is possible, but most storms should fizzle by sunset. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest forecast:

The cold front will pass through tonight, resulting in cooler temperatures for the weekend. Saturday morning will remain in the 50s, which is similar to what we are observing today. However, afternoon temperatures will be limited to the mid-60s. Sunday morning lows will be cooler, dropping into the upper 40s and lower 50s. Afternoon highs return to the low 60s, which is below average for this time of the year. If you are headed outside this weekend, you will want to keep yourself dry and warm.

Rain will stick around for both Saturday and Sunday despite the front passing through pretty early in this active pattern. This is due to the front stalling to our south, allowing more activity to develop. Thunderstorms are not impossible, but most activity will be in the form of showers. Heavy rain remains an issue due to the moisture lingering in our area. Flooding issues will remain in the forecast this weekend as rain remains persistent across the region. It will be a good weekend to stay in, catch up on activities, and relax.

The rainy pattern will begin to fade Sunday afternoon as the front is pushed away. Showers will eventually dissipate Sunday evening, resulting in a calmer night to end the weekend. From there, high pressure will move into the Great Lakes on Monday. The return of high pressure will result in drier conditions. Cooler temperatures will stick around for a couple of days next week, but afternoon highs will gradually increase next week. Morning lows will remain in the 40s, reflecting the typical bi-polar fall pattern. If you were enjoying the drier weather, it will return soon! Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
