We are once again seeing warm weather around the region as the typical summertime pattern continues today.
There are also showers and storms around, and while they’re not severe, they’re heavy enough that they will cause some slowdowns on the roads in places where they occur.
With the heavy rain parked over portions of Raleigh and Wyoming Counties, there is a Flash Flood Warning in effect until 9 p.m. For those areas. Included in that area is a stretch of both I-64 and I-77, so care should be taken if you plan to be on the roads this evening, especially where the warning is in effect.
After the rain tapers off, the usual patchy fog is possible, especially in areas that pick up rain. Already this evening, the WVDOT cameras are picking up fog near I-64 at Mile Marker 124. Otherwise, we’ll see one more very mild night, with lows in the middle to upper 60s.
Tomorrow will feature another chance for rain, but this time it will be enhanced a bit by a front that will march into the area from the northwest. With the front giving the storms a little extra energy, some of the storms could be on the strong side. Damaging winds are the main threat, in addition to the usual flooding threat from the heavy rains. Fortunately, the front is a quick mover, so the flooding threat is limited to areas that have seen a lot of rain recently, or areas that are flood-prone, or those that are underneath one of the stronger storms.
After the front is gone, cool weather lovers are in for a treat as highs will be in the 70s for most areas for the rest of the extended forecast. That starts on Friday and lasts well into next week. As for rain chances, they’ll be fairly high on Friday before tapering off for the first half of the weekend and going away altogether for the second half and as we start the next traditional work week. The next chance for rain will be late in the forecast as another system approaches the area at that point.
