Rain continues through the weekend; Nice days set up early week before next system

It’s been a pretty rainy and gloomy day across southern West Virginia and we have another day of that as now Post-Tropical Storm Isaias is still moving towards West Virginia. The storm has 30 MPH winds right now and is moving to the NNE at 15 MPH. Gusty showers will continue through Sunday morning before the wind dies down a bit and rain comes and goes throughout the day Sunday.

We will start to dry out Monday afternoon after morning showers and will lead to a pretty nice Columbus Day, although the high temperatures remain in the mid 60’s. Models start to divulge from each other as we head into Wednesday night with a small chance of late showers leading to more rain chance Thursday and Friday. A cold front is expected to move through on Friday, bringing our next batch of rain. Some models delay the cold front until Saturday, so that is something we will continue to watch over the next few days. The timing of the passage of this front will be key to if Bridge Day remains dry, or we see some type of precipitation. All we do know is it will likely be much colder on Saturday than any other day that week.

Here is a look at the European Model rainfall over the next 7 days. The majority of this falls this Sunday (October 11th), but there is still a good bit of rain that falls next Friday, which inflates the totals in the northern area to near 3 inches for some. The GFS has agreement in the northern aspect receiving the most rain, but keeps it closer to 1-2 inches.

Taking a look at the full 7 day forecast, a 50% chance of rain Columbus Day which is mainly early leads to dry weather Tuesday and for the majority of Wednesday. Temperatures will warm up into the mid 70’s Tuesday and Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. Thursday brings the chance of rain back, but it’s most likely next Friday. We are watching the model trends CLOSELY for Bridge Day as some models take the 53 degree high much colder (and show light precipitation) while others keep it around that and dry.
