Rain continues, but won’t have much of an impact on the drought

We’re tracking rain across Southern West Virginia this afternoon, with totals ranging from 0.04″ to 0.4″, and even more in some lucky locations. Showers will continue for the next several hours, and rain chances return tomorrow. While we welcome the rain, it’s unlikely to significantly impact our severe drought conditions.

Rivers, such as the Greenbrier, are running dry, trees are shifting into fall mode early, and gardens are struggling. Unfortunately, the rain over the next two days won’t do much to alleviate these issues. However, we can enjoy the shower chances through Thursday before drying out and heating up again.

Looking ahead, this weekend poses another risk for fire weather, so please be cautious. There’s a slight chance of more rain next week, but confidence is low. Let’s cross our fingers!
