Rain and Winds Turn To Dry and Mild Next Week

The Storm Prediction Center has included some of our area in their Day 2 Severe Outlook. A Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) includes parts of northern McDowell and Monroe Counties, most of Summers and Wyoming Counties as well as all of Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas, Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties. Below is a look at what the future radar could look like early Monday morning. Most of Sunday should remain clear and warm! We will be losing a lot of energy that the storms have to use through the evening and overnight hours which could limit most of our severe threat in Southern West Virginia. However, some energy could still be left over to produce some lightning and gusty winds. The hail and tornado threat is very very low.

As we head later on into next week around next Friday, we should see our next system come through that could bring more rain for Southern West Virginia. It’s still too far out to see what strong storm potential exists with this, if any. However, according to the European model, a good bit of rain could be produced by this event Friday into Saturday of next week. Most places in our northern half sitting at or above an inch, areas in our southern half look to be on the lower end of the rainfall.

Looking at the full 7 day forecast, you can see the rain chance quickly diminish going into Monday, so we remain mostly sunny Tuesday and start to get more clouds coming through Wednesday. Temperatures are still fairly mild throughout the week, never dipping below 50.
