The forecast calls for rain and snow to make its way through the region today. While most locations will see the snow change over to rain as the day goes on and the temperatures warm up, higher elevation locations will see snow for much of the day.
The forecast does have some good news in it for warm-weather lovers, as temperatures will rise into the 70s on both weekend days!
Late in the extended forecast, a powerful storm system will come into the area from the southwest. This low will give us a chance for showers and storms. The question regarding the storm system involves the strength of the storms embedded within it. They could be on the strong side in some cases. The Day 6 outlook (covering Sunday morning through Monday morning) from the Storm Prediction Center has a 15% risk for severe storms over the Ohio Valley, and that area stretches into western parts of the state. On Day 7 (covering Monday morning through Tuesday morning), the 15% risk area is just off to our southeast. We’ll closely monitor the system to see how it evolves.
