Summers County, WV (WOAY) – The fall season brings some big events and festivals to our area. The third weekend of October brings Bridge Day of course, but this upcoming second weekend brings a big annual festival to Hinton in Summers County.
It’s Railroad Days, of course!
It kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday.
It celebrates the area’s railroad heritage, and Hinton owes a lot to the railroad, as it is essentially a railroad town. At one point in time, it was one of the bigger cities in West Virginia.
This will be the 60th anniversary of the annual event, which has grown from humble beginnings.
Those attending the festivities will experience a wide variety of vendors and food, with live music on two stages.
There will be a book sale and even a kid zone for those smaller engineers. The railroad museum will be open to satisfy even the most voracious appetite for railroad history.
Railroad Days benefits many local organizations in Hinton, including the Lions Club, Band Boosters, and the Summers County Historical Society.
It is hard for Hinton not to leave a mark on visitors. The architecture reminds visitors that it was once booming, and its history is palpable.
The special event also keeps family and friends connected as it functions almost like a reunion.
