Very Warm, Then Rafael Brings Rain; Cold Blast On Horizon

Following a very warm Wednesday, Rafael will trigger weekend rain. If you’re ready for fall, we have it for a day or two late next week!

Wednesday and Thursday will bring a sprinkle or shower as a dissipating front pushes into the Appalachians. Rain amounts will be less than 0.10″. The wind will remain breezy through Wednesday with a high risk for brush fires to ignite. The wind and humidity will not reach the criteria for a Fire Weather Watch or Red Flag Warning.

Fog is expected early Thursday and the wind will be light on Friday. This is good news for Friday night football games. A cold front will join forces with the remnant low pressure that will be formerly known as Hurricane Rafael and bring about 1 inch of rain to the region Saturday evening into Sunday afternoon.

In the wake of Rafael, expect dry weather until another low pressure brings showers Tuesday.

A strong cold front will push from the Northwest Coast into the Plains November 11-13. This storm will trigger a cold outbreak in the Plains, especially in Texas. Likely the first major winter storm will sweep from the Rockies into the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley.

Our region will see a transition to colder than average temperatures (likely 5-7 degrees colder than average) on November 15. We are likely to see snow showers in Pocahontas County. By the weekend of November 16-17, temperatures will rebound markedly as the pattern shifts yet again.
