Rabid Raccoon found in Monroe County

Monroe County. WV (WOAY) – Public health officials are warning residents about a positive case of rabies in Monroe County.
According to a media release, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, a raccoon tested positive for rabies in the vicinity of Scott Hollow Road in Sinks Grove, WV.
Public health officials want the public to be aware that rabies is a viral disease. It can be transmitted to pets, livestock and humans though bites or contact with saliva.
What you need to know about rabies:
Avoid contact with wild animals, especially raccoons, bats skunks and foxes.
Make sure your pets and livestock have proper rabies vaccinations.
If you or your pet have been exposed to rabies, please contact your healthcare provider or veterinarian immediately.
