Public Service Commission approves Black Diamond Power Company rate increase proposal

Charleston, WV (WOAY)- The Public Service Commission of West Virginia approved a settlement to increase Black Diamond Power Company’s consolidated purchase power surcharge by approximately $1.2 million in additional revenue annually. 

The Charleston-based company purchases electricity from Appalachian Power. 

Black Diamond filed the case on August 12, asking for $2.3 million. 

Under the proposal, residential rates will increase by $20.52 a month, or 14.76 percent, for a customer using an average of 834 kilowatt hours of electricity.  

The original filing would have increased customer bills by 41 dollars and 29 cents monthly.  

The company provides service to 3,932 customers along 1,000 circuit miles in Raleigh, Clay, and Wyoming counties, according to its latest filing.
