Public meeting for Beckley Water Company rate hikes still on despite settlement

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A public meeting about the Beckley Water Company’s proposed rate increase is still on despite the company’s settlement with the Public Service Commission.

The meeting is being held due to “substantial” public interest.

The meeting is scheduled for March 15 at 10 a.m. in the Tamarack Conference Center.

The commission has 138 letters of protest on record about the rate increase, according to its website.

The company and the commission have settled on a first increase of 14.6% and a second stepped increase of 13.6%.

In legal filings with the Public Service Commission, the Beckley Water Company says that rate increases are necessary to offset increased operating expenses since 2021 when it last increased rates.

Further, the company plans to increase wages for its employees.
