President of Beckley Board of Realtors explains recent real estate market success in West Virginia

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The real estate market in Southern West Virginia is booming.

Tim Berry is the president of the Beckley Board of Realtors and the owner and broker of Tim Berry Real Estate and says while the Beckley market has always been healthy, now it is doing especially well.

“You know, a year ago, we actually felt like we were a little top heavy,” he said. “We had so many properties on the market in Beckley, and it was a buyer’s market but now we’re beginning to see a little evolution that is now starting to tilt a little bit more toward a seller’s market.”

Berry says it is because of historically low interest rates and more people are moving here for work or other reasons.

“Some are here for the federal prison. I know some of the retail stores bring managers or assistant managers or co-managers in,” Berry said. “We’re also seeing a lot of folks that have left here twenty, thirty years ago, they’ve made their living and now they want to come back home to retire.”

Berry says if you are thinking about selling a house, now is definitely the time to do it. And if you are even in the market to buy one, it’s a good time as well.

He says now more than ever, the appeal to live in a place with small town charm is huge.

“We’re a very inclusive city and we’re of course a city of civility, so I think that also adds to our attractiveness to folks that don’t live in this area that might want to live here,” Berry said.

He says if you would like to buy a house, the first step to take is to contact a lender.
