It’s been a pretty nice day across Southern West Virginia, but the storm potential returns as we head into Sunday. There could be multiple rounds: one Sunday morning, the other one Sunday night. There is potential for a rogue supercell or two occuring somewhere in our area Sunday afternoon, but the confidence in that happening is low. IF a supercell were to pop up, the environment would favor damaging winds up to 60 MPH, and the possibility for a brief tornado.
The risk for flash flooding has also increased since yesterday for our area as the Weather Prediction Center has expanded the Moderate Risk of Excessive Rainfall all the way south to Mercer County. According to the European model, 2+ inches of rain is yet again possible wherever the heaviest thunderstorm activity occurs. Not everywhere in this risk will get big time flooding, but the potential is definitely there for numerous areas to receive flooding.
Looking at that full 7 day forecast and we do see some changes than we have over the past week and that’s at least one completely dry day. Tuesday looks to be very dry, whereas most of Wednesday should be as well. Rain will start to come back into play from late Wednesday night through Saturday.
