It has been a very nice afternoon around southern West Virginia, as temperatures are in the 60s almost everywhere. Even better than the warmer temperatures, the winds that have been so strong over the past few days are much calmer today with high pressure overhead.
The nice weather looks set to last into Easter weekend, although tomorrow the winds will return as a low-pressure center approaches the state from the northwest and a warm front overspreads the area. After the front comes through, temperatures will push 80 degrees in our area, with lower 80s possible in lower elevation locations. With the approaching low, a chance for showers takes us into the weekend. The showers look to stay mainly to our northwest over the Ohio Valley, but an isolated shower or storm can’t be ruled out on either weekend day, although the chances are small.
As for the chances for severe weather, that also looks to be well to the northwest of the area, with only an isolated severe storm over the northern and northwestern portion of the state.
The better chance for showers – and isolated storms – will be on Monday as the front passes through. But while temperatures behind the front will fall, it won’t be the kind of cooldowns that we’ve seen behind the most recent fronts. Highs will drop into the 60s by next Tuesday but will rebound by the middle of next week ahead of another low-pressure center that will give us a chance for showers and storms Thursday.
