Pleasant weather for now

It is a very pleasant afternoon around the area, with plenty of sunshine and seasonably warm temperatures. Dewpoints this afternoon are generally in the lower 60s. While that’s only about 5 or 10 degrees cooler than they have been, it makes it feel much more pleasant to be outside.
Tonight, we’ll see lows drop into the lower 60s, with some upper 50s in the usual cooler spots.
Tomorrow will be pleasant again as high pressure continues to be in charge of our weather. With dry air still in place, temperatures will rebound quickly into the middle 80s for highs – a little warmer than normal but by only a few degrees. By Thursday, the high will be off to our southeast and the return flow from the south means that more humidity will be coming into the region. In addition to that, the heat dome that is baking areas to our southwest today will begin to shift slightly eastward. That will give us highs close to 90 degrees in many spots and above 90 in typically warmer areas like Wyoming and McDowell Counties. It will feel like it’s in the triple digits in those same warmer locations and in the 90s almost everywhere else.
Later Friday, a front begins to approach the area from the northwest and that re-introduces a chance for rain back into the forecast by the afternoon and evening. The front begins its slow march southeastward by the beginning of the weekend, raising the rain chances to 60 per cent both weekend days.
For now, the chance for severe weather is very small, and if there is any it will be more likely on Sunday in areas to our northwest. For us, the main concern will be the heavy moisture that the system will have to work with, raising flooding concerns. Early next week, we’re set up to return to a more typical summertime pattern, with chances for afternoon storms and highs in the 80s.
