GRANDVIEW, WV (WOAY)- “As soon as we cut the ribbon. The kids were on their way down the hill to check out the new equipment, and I think they know exactly what to do,” said Anne Bomar, VP and General Counsel for BHE GT&S.
What they did was have fun on the new playground at Shelter 2 in Grandview.
“That’s the most exciting part, is seeing the kids enjoy what has happened here. So that was that was the goal and this area,” said Deb Lamey, President of Friends of NRGNPP. “I came out here Sunday, just on a drive. My husband and I come out here and hike. These areas were all full and kids were out here playing, families were out here picnicking. So that’s what it’s all about. That’s what this park is meant to be.”
The Friends of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, the National Park Foundation, and Berkshire Hathaway Energies Gas Transmission and Storage unit held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playset.
This project started in 2021 when BHE GT&S Foundation donated $100,000 to the national park for a needed project or program. This was then matched with a $50,000 donation from the National Park Foundation and $50,000 from the Friends of NRGNPP.
This replaced the aging equipment that was there previously. The money was also used on more playgrounds than just this one.
The vice president of BHE GT&S is happy to continue to help infrastructure in more ways than one.
“We really appreciate investment in infrastructure that lasts for the long term. It’s the business that we’re in as a natural gas delivery company as well,” said Bomar. “So, investments in infrastructure like this that will last for a long time and provide joy, like we’re seeing here today, is important to us and a good fit for our culture.”
That joy was felt by all who attended. They hope to see that joy continue for years to come.
