Phase One begins for three area counties

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Hear from Woodrow Wilson head football coach Street Sarrett as the Flying Eagles began Phase One of the WVSSAC guidelines regarding summer sports training.

Greenbrier, Raleigh, and Summers counties all were scheduled to begin Phase One on Monday, which allows for small groups of student-athletes participating in strength training and conditioning drills. Groups would increase for Phase Two, while Phase Three coincides with the official three-week summer practice period.

Sarrett says there has been a strong turnout of student-athletes from all sports, with some groups practicing early Monday morning. He also says there is progress being made on the turf installation at Van Meter Stadium; Woodrow Wilson and Independence are scheduled to have turf football fields for the 2020 season. Liberty and Shady Spring will put in turf fields ahead of the 2021 season.
