Pack returns $22K in unclaimed property to Fayette County

Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – More than $22,000 in unclaimed property is going back to six local governments and agencies in Fayette County.

West Virginia State Treasurer Larry Pack toured the county Wednesday morning, presenting a check at each stop. The amounts were:

Fayette County Commission: $7,000.00
New River Health: $5,867.16
Fayette County Board of Education: $3,270.76
Town of Fayetteville: $3,134.78
Fayette County Sheriff’s Department: $2,465.05
City of Oak Hill: $1,086.68

“So this is Fayette County Day, we’re very pleased to be able to return money back to these various agencies and entities. We knew they really needed in their budgets and it should help them,” Pack said.

Pack said the public stops are also meant to get people checking for money of their own.

“We’ve got over $500 million of West Virginians’ money. We want to give it back,” Pack said. “The reason we do these public give backs is just to bring awareness to the program.”

Pack encouraged residents to visit the West Virginia Treasurer’s website and check on unclaimed property.

“Just put your name and address and name and address of every family member you can think of and hopefully we’ll be able to give you some money back,” he said.
