West Virginia (WOAY)-Are you ready to give back to the great outdoors?
Saturday, September 27, is National Public Lands Day, and events are taking place this weekend to allow you to give back to the environment that has given so much to us.
The Friends of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, along with the Fayette Trail Coalition, will host a hands-on trail workday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Volunteers will help build 120 feet of new causeway, repair trail sections, and restore an old reroute with seeding and natural debris.
Be sure to bring water, snacks, sturdy shoes, and dress for the weather.
Organizers will provide tools and gloves.
Please note that parking is limited, so consider carpooling if possible.
To save time, bring a completed waiver with you.
For more information, visit nps.gov/neri or follow the Friends of New River Gorge on Facebook.
Also on Saturday, Pipestem Resort State Park will host a guided hike and park cleanup at 10:00 a.m.
Volunteers will meet at the splash pad and clean up the shoreline of Long Branch Lake.
