RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – One Voice is gearing up for its Bright Minds and Better Days 5K to support those who struggle with substance use and other life-controlling issues.
Host Beckie Smith welcomes the community to join the 8am run at Woodrow Wilson High School on Saturday, May 10.
All proceeds benefit One Voice and the population it serves.
This deeply affects Smith, whose son has long battled substance use on the streets. She says if she can help one person, it’s all worth it.
“Mental health and addiction have touched everybody’s family. I want to continue this fight for them, not just my son,” the Bright Life Mental Health & Recovery Marketing Director said.
According to Smith, she wants to be a voice for all those who feel cast aside.
She says there’s been a shift in the stigmatization.
“No longer are you going to kick these people to the side,” said Smith. “They are our family members, our children, our loved ones. You have to let them know you care.”
