One person is dead after early morning house fire in Greenbrier County

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOAY) – The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department says one person has died due to an early morning fire.

Earlier this morning at around 6:46 am, members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential fire that occurred on State Route 92, just north of White Sulphur Springs. White Sulphur Springs Fire and EMS responded to the scene, which was a garage apartment.

Preliminary indications are that the lone occupant had exited the residence, obtained a fire extinguisher, and re-entered the home. The occupant was then unable to exit the structure before suffering what would be a fatal injury. The fire was put out by the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded and concluded the fire to be accidental.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.
