Bluefield, WV (WOAY)- Mercer County authorities are investigating the cause of a tragic crash.
Around 6:22 PM on Wednesday, July 23, deputies responded to a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 52 and Labrador Drive.
Investigators say 21-year-old Joseph Scott of Bluefield was riding a motorcycle southbound on Route 52 when a GMC pickup entered the highway from Labrador Drive.
The two vehicles collided in the northbound lane.
Scott sustained critical injuries and was transported to Bluefield Regional Hospital, where he later passed away.
The driver of the GMC remained at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities.
Investigators confirmed the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
