Officials ask Mercer County Board of Health to review medical marijuana ruling

BLUEFIELD, WV (WOAY) -Bluefield officials have asked the Mercer County Board of Health to reconsider an April decision to not allow a medical cannabis dispensary in the county.

The original decision was made after the Board of Health denied a request from a business. Mercer County is currently the only County in West Virginia to not allow a medical dispensary.

“Four of our five elected officials, two Senators and our delegates that support this area, not only helped craft some of the legislation, but four of the five voted in favor of this medical cannabis legislation,” said Bluefield City Manger Dane Rideout. “We’re the only county that has opposed it. It’s not just dispensaries. It’s growers and manufacturers that are a big part of this piece.”

All Bluefield City Board members support the idea of a medical cannabis dispensary within Mercer County.
