Webster County, WV (WOAY) – A Webster County man is in jail for allegedly exposing himself on a camping trip.
According to the West Virginia State Police, 37-year-old James Allen Ray of Cowen is charged with third-degree sexual abuse, sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or person of trust, and indecent exposure.
Ray was arrested in Lincoln County on Wednesday, June 25, by the West Virginia State Police on the warrants out of Webster County, where the alleged crimes occurred.
According to Troopers, the alleged abuse took place Saturday, June 21st, while Ray was on a camping trip with the teenage girl and her family in the Williams River area.
The 14-year-old told Troopers that Ray exposed himself to her, attempted to give her alcohol, and tried to coerce her into having sex with him while her parents were sleeping.
James Allen Ray works as a Nicholas County Humane Officer, according to State Police. He has also worked as a police officer at a city department in Webster County but never obtained his law enforcement certification.
Ray is currently being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail.
