Nice weather this afternoon, but showers return later

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We started with patchy fog this morning, but it lifted as the morning went on, leaving us with nice weather this afternoon. Temperatures are on the cool side behind the first of two fronts that will impact our weather later this week.

Later this evening, another front will come into the area and will increase the cloud cover again while triggering a few showers.

The rain gear could come in handy for outdoor plans this evening, whether it’s the Friday night football game or anything else. As the front goes through the region, temperatures will begin to cool off. We started this morning in the upper 30s in Chicago, and that airmass will move into the state tonight. By tomorrow morning, that’s where we’ll be temperature-wise as well.

The weekend ahead will be a cool one, especially on Saturday. Highs during the first half of the weekend will be around 50 degrees on average, and with mostly cloudy skies and a bit of a northwesterly breeze, it will feel even colder. There is a small chance for rain and snow showers in the eastern panhandle, and we’ll have to watch to see if any of them sneak into Pocahontas County. Lows Sunday morning will be around the freezing mark. Highs on Sunday will be a bit warmer under mostly sunny skies. We’ll be close to the seasonal average, which in Beckley is 57 degrees. We end the weekend with another near-freezing night.
Next week will be a mostly dry week around the region. The next chance for rain and snow will be at the end of the extended forecast. Highs will be in the 50s most days, warming slightly into the lower 60s next Tuesday and on Veterans’ Day. Lows will be in the 30s.
