Nice weather is here, a wet weekend is on tap

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – There were a few showers around the area today, and while any rain totals wound up being light, anything is helpful given the dry conditions that we have been experiencing. This evening, the skies will become mostly clear, and temperatures will drop into the upper 40s and lower 50s.
Tomorrow will be a very pleasant day around the region, with highs in the mid-70s and plenty of sunshine. There will be a few showers to our north and northeast, but these should stay just outside the area as the front is far enough to our north to keep the shower chances to a minimum. High pressure over the Carolinas is the reason why, and it will also give us a southwesterly flow, which will make it a warm day. Friday looks like a similar story, but it’s the calm before the (showers and) storms.
This weekend will see another low-pressure center pass to our north, but this one will drag a front through the area. The models have been trending a bit drier with this front, but I still think it will give us around a half inch to an inch of rain on a widespread basis.
Again, this is not enough to eliminate the drought, but it will ease it a bit. Temperatures this weekend will be slightly cooler than what we’ll see on Thursday and Friday, but this is due to the cloud cover, not another invasion of Arctic air from Canada.
Early next week will continue to be active, and after a brief break, another storm will come into the area and give us more chances for rain. At this rate, we should see some improvement in the Drought Monitor over the next week or two. Temperatures towards the end of the extended forecast are in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees for the highs, with lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s, both pretty close to the normal.
