New U.S. citizens celebrate naturalization ceremony in Charleston

Charleston, WV (CNN) There have been demonstrations against U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions in Minnesota.

However, in a Charleston federal courtroom on Friday, it was a different mood as 50 people from 27 different countries became legal U.S. citizens.

The judge overseeing the ceremony delivered a speech to the newly-minted citizens.

He noted what he called “formidable challenges” the country is currently experiencing, but he also told them to dedicate themselves to what makes the United States strong.

Many of the new citizens said their next stop was to register to vote.
