New River Gorge National Park and Preserve announces Rend Trail closed for construction

West Virginia (WOAY) Visitors to New River Gorge National Park and Preserve should plan accordingly, as the Rend Trail is now closed for major improvements.

The 3.2-mile trail in the Thurmond-Minden area will be closed for approximately 16 months while crews complete upgrades.

The project includes a new parking area, restroom, picnic area, repairs to five historic railroad trestles, and a full trail rehabilitation.

An accessible ramp will also replace a stairway, creating the park’s only fully accessible earthen-surface trail.

Visitors are encouraged to check the park’s website for updates during construction.
