Nicholas County, WV (WOAY) – We have learned new details about an investigation into the alleged murder of a Nicholas County woman by her mother.
Newswatch has obtained a criminal complaint that alleges the body had been burned.
Over the weekend, Staci Wind was arrested on first-degree murder charges following the disappearance of her twenty-six-year-old daughter, Ayla Wind.
Staci filed a missing persons report last Monday. On Saturday, officers found human remains in a shallow grave near Summit Lake in Greenbrier County.
According to a criminal complaint, those remains had been burned. A tarp and a bed sheet were also in the grave, and two ferns were on top.
Officers located a burn site near the grave containing human bones and a cell phone.
State troopers served a search warrant at Staci Wind’s house the next day.
Inside, they found what they believe to be blood stains. Officers also found the alleged victim’s mattress cut up, covered in blood stains, and stowed in trash bags.
Officers found plant baskets matching the ferns found on the grave and a booster seat that matched the manual for a seat found near the grave.
The investigation is still ongoing.
