Names of victims of deadly Fayette County double stabbing released

KANAWHA FALLS, WV (WOAY) – The names of the victims of a deadly double stabbing on Sunday have been released.

Phillip Hughes, a 61-year-old man, was found by deputies with a head wound. He succumbed to his injuries at Montgomery General Hospital.

Meloni Flood, a 44-year-old woman also from Kanawha Falls, was airlifted to Charleston Area Medical Center with a body wound. Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley said that she has been moved to a step-down unit and is on her way to a full recovery.

Fridley said his deputies responded to the call quickly enough to be able to provide life-saving care.

“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims of this senseless act of violence,” said Sheriff Fridley. “I would also like to commend the deputies for their quick response to the call and their unhesitating actions to perform CPR and other life-saving measures in an attempt to save the lives of the victims.”

Sheriff Fridley has identified John H. Craig, a 45-year-old man, as the suspect. He was located by Fridley himself after a manhunt on Sunday.
