Myrtle Beach man facing felony arson charges in Fayette County

Victor, WV (WOAY) – A Myrtle Beach man faces felony arson charges in Fayette county.

According to Sheriff Mike Fridley, Fayette County Sherriff’s Deputies and fire service personnel responded to a call on Sunday night reporting the suspected arson of an abandoned trailer in the Horseshoe Creek area of Victor.

The caller gave dispatchers the name of a man reportedly seen near the trailer before it caught on fire.

The individual matched the description of another suspect in Jackson County with active warrants who allegedly made threats to commit suicide by cop.

Fayette County Sheriffs located and charged Mark D. Moorehead, 55, with first degree arson and processed him for an active domestic assault warrant from Jackson County.

Fridley states the suspect gave a statement to deputies, admitting to setting the fire to the trailer that he says was his childhood home.

Fire services extinguished the flames.

Authorities transported Moorehead to southern regional jail where he awaits further court proceedings.
