Mountain State Centers for Independent Living in Beckley now has computer lab thanks to grant money

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Through a grant from the Beckley Area Foundation, Mountain State Centers for Independent Living in Beckley now has a computer lab.

The center teaches life skills to those with disabilities, so they can be more independent in their everyday life.

Because of the new computer lab, they now have the ability to not only learn more about the computers themselves, but it also gives them access to online convenience.

Community Resource Facilitator Kelly Elkins says they will also be teaching classes about making resumes and applying for jobs.

“We want them to think larger and think you know, how you can pay your bills online and how to maybe do some online shopping, things like that, that they may not have the opportunity to do,” Elkins said.

The labs were used on Wednesday for the first time for a voter registration class.
