Mother’s Day tradition of going out to eat swapped in favor of takeout

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Typically on Mother’s Day, families like to head out to eat, but given the situation with the pandemic, that’s not possible this year.

Instead, many people are opting in for takeout, giving restaurants that offer such a service a decent boost in revenue.

Don Williams, owner of Cafe One Ten in Oak Hill, says that although ordering takeout goes against tradition for Mother’s Day, it still gets families to spend time together.

“For a lot of families it is a tradition to go out and take your mother out t o a different restaurant or maybe the same restaurant every year, so I’d say it is kind of weird. But everything’s weird right now and I think people are adapting and doing the best they can. And I guess the main thing is you’re spending time with your mom,” Williams said.

Cafe One Ten has been offering free deliveries since the start of the pandemic.
