We are seeing some showers and storms move into the area from the northwest as a front makes its way into the region. Some of the storms could be on the strong side with gusty winds and heavy rain for areas that see a storm. Watch out for some possible creek rises in addition to the usual issues that arise with the summertime storms such as ponding water and standing water in the usual low-lying spots. The chance for storms lasts into the overnight before tapering off. Patchy fog is also possible in places that see rain.
Tomorrow, we’ll continue to see showers – and possibly a storm or two – even though the front will have swung through the area. The heaviest of the showers will be in the east facing mountains in areas like the Greenbrier Valley with some upsloping enhancing the rain. Other areas will see rain as well. A rumble of thunder is possible, but the chances are smaller than today.
Temperatures will be quite a bit lower than they have been as the cool air invades the region. Highs will be in the 70s, a far cry from the mid-80s that we’re seeing today. You can see the effects of the front by looking at the regional temperature chart from this evening. Look at how much cooler it is in Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Syracuse compared to Beckley.
As we go into the weekend, the cooler-than-normal temperatures will stay with us. Highs will be in the mid-70s both days and lows will be around 60 degrees. There will be some showers on Saturday, but the chances are fairly small.
Sunday will be a wonderful day, with mostly sunny skies and pleasant temperatures.
The nice weather lasts into next week, with temperatures in the same neighborhood as they will be this weekend. Some areas will get to 80 degrees, but that should be reserved for the usually warmer areas like Pineville.
