WOAY – As of Monday, four games originally on Marshall’s 2020 football schedule will not be played this fall, following decisions made amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Old Dominion, which like the Thundering Herd plays in Conference USA’s East Division, announced Monday they would have no fall sports season, but they are hopeful of potentially playing fall sports in the spring. The Monarchs were originally scheduled to host Marshall in football on November 28.
In addition, the Mountain West Conference announced the suspension of its fall sports season; one member, Boise State, was slated to visit Marshall on September 25.
In total, 26 Division I FBS teams have announced they will not play in fall 2020; 12 teams each from the Mid-American and Mountain West conferences, Old Dominion, and Connecticut, which is an independent.
Marshall’s games against Ohio and Pittsburgh were taken off the schedule in recent days, though the Panthers have now seen their one non-conference game (Miami University of Ohio) removed as well.
